Title

Authorizing the City on behalf of the Office of Neighborhood Safety (“ONS”) to accept and amend the financing and spending plan in the amount of $450,000 for a 2024 Community Crime Intervention and Prevention Grant, issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) received authorization from City Council to apply for a 2024 Community Crime Intervention and Prevention grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, in RES 23-1519; and

 

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety awarded the Office of Neighborhood Safety a Community Crime Intervention and Prevention Grant in the amount of $450,000 for a term of May 1, 2024 through December 31, 2025; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant provides funding for an evaluation of ONS’s functions, community based organization liaison costs, training, and salary costs associated with performance of the grant, with an overall purpose of improving ONS’s effectiveness in its mission to prevent and reduce community violence; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant requires no matching funds from the City; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 financing and spending plan needs to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, Pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $450,000 in excess of those dedicated to ONS, therefore be it total revenues in excess of those estimated in the budget, in the Special Fund; now

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Saint Paul, does hereby:

 

                     1. Authorize ONS to accept the 2024 Community Crime Intervention and Prevention                      Grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety; and

 

                     2. Adopt, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that $450,000 is available for                      appropriation to ONS as specified in the attached financial analysis form.
