Staff report by Jill Barden: the property owner states autopay payments were being
declined in spite of giving Waste Management updated credit card information. The
property owner believes late fees should be removed. Waste Management states
they emailed property owner January 25 with a notification of declined autopay, and
property owner didn’t contact Waste Management until early April. However, property
owner states they contacted Waste Management in October 2023 with updated credit
card information. The Quarter 4 payment
Moermond: this assessment is for $144.52, with the late fees being just over $20. Mr.
Barrett, sounds like Waste Management wasn’t keeping up with your credit card
information as you submitted it?
Barrett: yes, and whatever happened with the system in January. We all experience it
too often where your card is compromised, that happened just before October. My
wife went online and updated the information. What appears to be missing was that in
January there was no communication saying they had the same situation. We
updated the information, you have the potential to contact us, good credit scores.
Missing the communication in January missed the opportunity to avoid all of this.
Moermond: we agree, so does staff. We’ll reduce this assessment to $134.31. That is
your original bill amount. I regret you have to go through this process to get this
squared away. Hopefully things for residents improve when Waste Management no
longer is in charge of the billing, and the City takes over the billing. Let’s get that
decreased. If you’re ok with that recommendation, this goes to Council Public
