I must tell you that I am disappointed that the President of The Lex, Mr. Charles Carter never reached out to the neighbors directly to the West, South, and East to discuss his proposed liquor license application, but yet, per his letter to the City Council, feels that he has been misled and lied to by City officials. I spoke first with Mr. Sam Logan, who lives directly across the street at 984 Concordia, who's nephew Jeff Logan, was killed in the alley of the former American Legion, then to Ms. Faye Jefferson, who also lives directly across the street at 325 Chatsworth, who was not aware of a liquor license application request, nor did Megan Redmann from the Jeremiah Project, or the other neighbors directly behind his business at 977, 972, 969, 966, etc....Carroll Avenue, who signed the attached petition, to express their opposition. The message that I heard from the neighbors directly affected, next to and immediately behind The Lex, is that they were never notified, therefore, thought it was less than honest for this to happen without seeking approval from the neighbors potentially be affected by such a decision. They also questioned why they were never notified by the City of St. Paul or The Lex, or its President, Charles Carter. Due to the fact that they were unaware of this item being on the City Council agenda and public hearing, I encouraged them to send their concerns and want you to know that, as neighbors, we are concerned that The Lex has reached out to other people for support of their request, that do not and will not be affected if this license is approved. It is our understanding that Mr. Carter has reached out to minority community leaders and former city staff that do not live in the immediate neighborhood and some not even in the City of St. Paul, but rather its surrounding suburbs. One particular man owns a piece of land at Fisk and Concordia, more than three blocks away, that's not someone we consider our neighbor or "directly affected." Therefore, per the signed petition, we urge our City leaders to deny the request by Mr. Charles Carter and The Lex and its members to serve alcohol at 976 Concordia. We also ask that they pay close attention to where the supporters of this agenda item live, I'm sure you will see that they are not part of our neighborhood. Sincerely, Renee Tyler
