Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for grant funds of $3,510 from AARP to support the activation of the Outdoor Fitness Park, located at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center.

Body

 

 WHEREAS, AARP funds programming of the Outdoor Fitness Park to build physically active lifestyles within Minnesota communities by enabling the City of Saint Paul to provide local fitness professionals who will host regular, no-cost, community classes at the AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul performs significant services for residents of the Metropolitan area and all Minnesota residents through its ownership and operation of its parks, trails, and facilities; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for grant funds of $3,510 from AARP to support the activation of the Outdoor Fitness Park geared towards people who are in need of increasing their level of physical activity; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds, if awarded, will provide quality instructors and programming to enhance the physical activity levels in those who participate; and

 

WHEREAS, any unspent funds will be donated to a qualifying 501(c)(3) organization with a health related mission such as the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for funds from AARP for the activation of the Outdoor Fitness Park located at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center.
