Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept a donation in the amount of $4,000 from the City of Skate, a non-profit organization, to repurpose an old batting cage at Battle Creek Recreation Center into a mini-ramp.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul’s Department of Parks and Recreation, through recreation centers and programs, offers many events, classes, and activities for youth and families in Saint Paul; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Skate is a non-profit coalition of Twin cities skaters, parents, and allies whose mission is to design and develop innovative public skate spaces for creative expression, discovery, community, conversation and health; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Skate wishes to donate $4000 to the Department of Parks and Recreation to support the mini-ramp project at Battle Creek Recreation Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to accept $4,000 in funds from City of Skate to support skateboarding at Battle Creek Rec Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the funds, if accepted, will provide funds necessary to repurpose the old batting cages at Battle Creek Recreation Center and turn the space into a mini-ramp for skateboarders; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no required match of these funds by the City; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that the expenditure of these funds to support skateboarding at Battle Creek Recreation Center has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Parks and Recreation

Department to accept $4,000 in funds from City of Skate, and thanks them for their generous donation.
