Authorizing the Department of Emergency Management to apply for a dedicated Community Oriented Policing Services grant from U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $2,000,000.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Department of Emergency Management is responsible for the maintenance and administration of a comprehensive emergency management and homeland security program within the City; and

 

WHEREAS, RES 21-562 RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Saint Paul supports the City’s request for federal funding to purchase replacements for 600 portable radios for emergency responders who respond to Saint Paul and mutual-aid community public safety needs; and

 

WHEREAS, Public Law 117-103, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 named the City of Saint Paul as a recipient of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Technology community project funding; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Emergency Management requests permission to apply for and accept the award for the 2022 COPS Technology and Equipment Program (TEP) dedicated $2,000,000 grant from U.S. Department of Justice; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no match amount required of these funds by the City; now therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Director of Emergency Management to apply for, and if approved, accept said grant and utilize funds as approved for the project herein.
