Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for up to $25,000 from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resource’s (MN DNR) No Child Left Inside grant to support the Saint Paul Nature Champions project.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul performs significant services for residents of the Metropolitan area and all Minnesota residents through its ownership and operation of its parks and trails; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for, and if awarded, accept up to $25,000 in grant funds from the MN DNR to support the Saint Paul Nature Champions project; and
WHEREAS, grant funds would allow the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide quality, nature-based opportunities and excursions to Saint Paul youth; and
WHEREAS, there is an unspecified amount match required of these funds by the City and other supporting agencies of the Saint Paul Nature Champions project which will be provided by our own staff and resources; and
WHEREAS, funds will be reimbursed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources upon submitting required reimbursement requests and reports; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Director of Parks and Recreation to apply for, and if approved, accept said grant, and staff is authorized to apply for reimbursement from the grant funds approved for the project herein.
