Title

Approving the agreement between the Department of Safety and Inspections and the Association for Non-Smokers-Minnesota, and accepting a grant of a minimum of $10,000 to enable DSI to limit youth/underage access to tobacco products.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Association for Non-Smokers-Minnesota (ANSR) has for years assisted the City of Saint Paul’s Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) in their efforts to limit youth/underage access to tobacco products; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has used this funding successfully in the past to reduce the frequency of point-of-sale advertising and other tobacco marketing practices aimed towards children/minors; and

 

 

WHEREAS, DSI and ANSR have and will continue to work together to educate the community on the promotional and marketing practices used by the tobacco industry designed to target youth/underage; and

 

 

WHEREAS, DSI will provide technical assistance to ANSR in the interpretation of relevant Saint Paul ordinances; and

 

 

WHEREAS, DSI will also assist ANSR by analyzing data on point-of-sale approaches, reviewing and enforcing city ordinances, and providing information to ANSR regarding the sale of “loosies” cigarettes, e-cigarettes, imitation tobacco products, novelty lighters, paraphernalia, and outside signage; now, therefore, be it

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves the attached agreement between DSI and ANSR; and be it

 

 

FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council thanks the Association for Non-Smokers-Minnesota (ANSR) for their generous grant of a minimum amount of $10,000.00 and for their continued support of DSI in their efforts to curtail youth/underage access to tobacco products.
