Title

Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept $2,910,000 in funding through the Legacy Amendment Arts & Cultural Heritage for programmatic development at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory and to enter into a grant agreement with the State of Minnesota that includes indemnification language.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory was appropriated funds by the legislature to receive grant funds for programmatic development and preservation projects under the Legacy Amendment sales tax; and

 

WHEREAS, project work includes $2,910,000 in State FY22 & FY23 for educational and inclusive programming, special exhibits, garden preservation and habitat renewal that would not be possible to offer our guests as part of the Como’s base funding; and

 

WHEREAS, if funded, the grant agreement will require that the grantee indemnify the State, its agents and employees from any claims or causes of action arising from performance of the grant agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that accepting these grant funds will allow Parks and Recreation to continue to inspire the public to value the presence of living things in our lives; and

 

WHEREAS, the expenditure of public funds, which includes the promise of indemnification, for such a purpose will facilitate and enable it to take place; Now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul and Saint Paul City Council authorize the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into a grant agreement, which includes indemnification language, with the State of Minnesota on behalf of Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.
