Authorizing the Police Department to accept and amend the 2021 special fund budget and adding an activity for the Speed and Aggressive Driving Enforcement grant from the State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department (SPPD) has been awarded The Speed and Aggressive Driving Enforcement grant in the amount of $38,800 from the State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety of which SPPD is the lead applicant with a budget of $16,230 and the following Sub grantees will collectively receive $22,570 of the grant: Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Mounds View Police Department, Roseville Police Department, Saint Anthony Police Department, White Bear Lake Police Department and New Brighton Police Department. The grant period is February 15, 2021 to September 30, 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant reduces fatalities and severe injuries by increasing activities for enforcement, community engagement and communication about safe driving; and

 

WHEREAS, SPPD will use the funding to reimburse department overtime and fringe expense for efforts dedicated to this cause; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2021 financing and spending plan needs to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $38,800 in excess of those estimated in the 2021 budget and recommends the following changes; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant award and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into an agreement for this grant award and approves these changes to the 2021 budget.
