Joining the American Lung Association’s application to the Department of Energy for funding of the Twin Cities Electric Vehicle Community Mobility Network and a multifamily housing electric vehicle carshare pilot.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is developing a network of curbside hubs featuring electric vehicle carshare and public electric vehicle charging in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, Xcel Energy, and HOURCAR; and
WHEREAS, the network of charging hubs will be deployed in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, where the new electric vehicle carshare service operated by HOURCAR will provide an additional transportation option, complementing transit, biking, & walking. The public charging component will enable more drivers to convert to electric vehicles. Renewable energy will be sought to power the hubs, and overall project goals are to improve air quality, reduce car ownership, and provide transportation options in line with the Saint Paul Climate Action Resilience plan; and
WHEREAS, the American Lung Association is applying for Department of Energy funds for the Twin Cities Electric Vehicle Community Mobility Network and a multifamily housing electric vehicle carshare pilot; and
WHEREAS, the American Lung Association, as the applicant, will be responsible for all reporting requirements on the Department of Energy funds; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds, if awarded, will - among other elements -- help fill the funding gap in the Twin Cities Electric Vehicle Community Mobility Network, diversify the electric vehicle carshare fleet, fund community engagement and outreach about the new network, and enable additional fast charging capabilities in the network; and
WHEREAS, there is a 50% match requirement of these funds by the partners; and
WHEREAS, most of the match will be met by Xcel Energy’s contribution of electrical infrastructure to the project; and
