A Resolution under Minnesota Statute Section 410.12, subd. 5 extending the time period for the charter commission to review the proposed amendment to Chapter 6.03.1 of the Saint Paul City Charter.

WHEREAS, by RES 18-1962, on November 28, 2018, the Council of the City of Saint Paul requested the Charter Commission consider an amendment to Chapter 6.03.1 of the Saint Paul City Charter; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute Section 410.12, Subdivision 5 requires that the Charter Commission approve or reject any proposed amendments recommended by the City Council to the charter within 60 days, but may extend the time an additional 90 days upon a resolution of the Charter Commission; and
WHERAS, the Standing Rules of the Charter Commission require that any proposed changes in language cannot be put to a vote until the language has been presented in written form and read at two (2) separate meetings of the Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Commission has referred the proposed amendment to a Committee for consideration; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Commission first met on the Council’s request on December 4, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Commission will not be able to meet the 60 day deadline; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Charter Commission provides notice to the Council that it will extend the time for consideration by an additional 90 days.
