Approving the donation of surplus food purchased for the Blooming Saint Paul Awards, which was cancelled due to weather. 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation annually hosts the Blooming St. Paul Awards ceremony to recognize outstanding residential and commercial gardens; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2018 event scheduled for Monday, January 22nd was canceled due to the snowstorm that resulted in the cancellation of many Citywide activities; and

 

WHEREAS, the City contracted with Kane’s Catering to provide food for the event and due to the late notice of cancellation Kane’s had already prepared the food; and                    

 

WHEREAS,  the Director of Parks and Recreation asked that Kane’s Catering donate the unused food to the Union Gospel Mission rather than letting it go to waste; and

 

WHEREAS,  the City Council finds that the donation of food for which the City is contractually obligated to pay for, but could not use, served a public purpose in feeding homeless people and preventing the waste of the food;  now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council approves the donation of the food intended for the Blooming Saint Paul Awards.
