Amending the 2015 Capital Improvement financing and spending plans in the Department of Parks and Recreation in the amount of $17,369,180 to reflect funding received from the State of Minnesota General Obligation Bond funds through the Metropolitan Council and Como Friends, the non-profit partner of Como Park Zoo and Conservatory for Como’s Seal and Sea Lion Habitat Asset Preservation project.

Body
WHEREAS, Como Zoo’s Habitat Preservation project is one of the City’s Capital Investment bonding priorities; and

WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is a statewide asset that provides educational experiences to all Minnesotans across the state and that Seals and Sea Lions play a major role as conservation ambassadors; and

WHEREAS, Como Friends is the non-profit partner of Como Park Zoo and Conservatory and has reinvested more than $35 million in projects and programs since 1999; and

WHEREAS, Como Friends commits to raise a total of $2,769,180 towards the project with $1,341,000 already raised; and

WHEREAS, the 2017 Minnesota Legislature awarded a $15 million grant for predesign, design, engineering and construction for the renovation of the seal and sea lion habitat at Como Zoo; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to thank Como Friends and the State of Minnesota for their continued support for allowing Como Park Zoo and Conservatory to accomplish their mission to inspire the public to value the presence of living things in our lives; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $17,369,180 in excess of those estimated in the 2015 Capital Improvement Budget; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul approves these amendments to the 2015 Capital Improvement Budget.
