WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has received an award of $40,906 from the National Park Service for two stations, 5 tandem kayaks and equipment, DNR licenses and route stickers, paddles, and personal floatation devices; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation desires to amend 2017 Special Fund financing and spending budget in the amount of $40,906 for the award from the National Park Service; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is working with the National Park Service to bring Mississippi River Paddle Share to Saint Paul; and

WHEREAS, Saint Paul will have four stations, 19 kayaks, and all necessary gear (paddles, lifejackets) for access to the Mississippi River; and

WHEREAS, the goal is to increase recreational activity on the river through the provision of kayaks, gear and rental stations; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Park Connection wishes to donate to the Department of Parks and Recreation an additional two stations, 14 solo kayaks with DNR licenses and route stickers, paddles, and 14 personal floatation devices, valued at $35,358 ; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation desires to amend 2017 Special Fund financing and spending budget in the amount of $35,358 for the donation from the Mississippi Park Connection; and

WHEREAS, the provision of kayaking on the Mississippi is an amenity to citizens of and visitors to Saint Paul and furthers the mission of providing healthy and fun recreational activities; and
