Honoring the recipient of the 2017 Saint Paul Business Awards for the Open For Business Award to recognize a business that exemplifies nearly all the categories in the Saint Paul Business Awards.

Whereas, the City of Saint Paul has a prosperous, engaged and thriving business community that is one of our city’s most valuable resources; and
Whereas, Saint Paul businesses provide jobs and services to residents and a solid foundation for our city’s growth and prosperity; and
Whereas, these companies deserve not only the city’s support but recognition for their many contributions to our community; and
Whereas, as part of the city’s efforts to recognize the outstanding businesses that call Saint Paul home, the City initiated the Saint Paul Business Awards to honor local businesses that provide critical services, contribute to our community, invest in their employees and are committed to our values of equity and diversity;
Whereas, El Burrito Mercado is a vibrant Mexican Latino marketplace, located on the West Side and proudly serving the community since 1979, specializing in Mexican cuisine, and offering an array of imported Mexican food items, artesania and gifts, creating a home away from home experience of beautiful Mexico; and
Whereas, El Burrito Mercado as a locally known and universally loved business poised to win nearly all of the award categories, as a business owned by women, representing the diversity of Saint Paul, growing from a small to a large business and evolving into a Saint Paul tradition, the 2017 Saint Paul Business Awards Selection Committee unanimously chose to create this special award to honor such admirable achievements.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Saint Paul City Council, that we do hereby grant the 2017 Saint Paul Business Award in the Open For Business Award to El Burrito Mercado
