Authorizing the Police Department to accept the St. Paul Police Foundation grant for use for technology supporting the protection of Saint Paul Police Officers, and amend the 2017 grant fund budget for these funds.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation was formed in 2005 to help the Saint Paul Police Department (SPPD) in many ways including insuring that public safety for our citizens remains the number one priority for our city; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation board of directors has distributed $360,000 from restricted use funds from a generous donor who pledged the use for technology, including body cameras, supporting the protection of the Saint Paul Police officers; and
WHEREAS, the funds will support SPPD’s body camera project; and
WHEREAS, the SPPD would like to accept the donation for which the public purpose is for public and officer safety; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 financing and spending plan needs to be added for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $360,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2017 budget and recommends the changes as follows; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts this generous donation and extend its sincere thanks to the Saint Paul Police Foundation and approves these changes to the 2017 budget.
