Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to accept an invitation from Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories and Arboretum to receive paid flights, hotel , transportation, and food costs for two participants to attend Commercial Client Days in Charlotte, North Carolina.

WHEREAS, the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory curates and maintains public park gardens utilizing horticultural and environmental science based best practices; and
WHEREAS, Bartlett Tree Experts manages a nationally recognized tree research facility and arboretum for study and education on pest, disease, cultural and environmental issues affecting trees and has invited Como Park Zoo and Conservatory to participate with other public gardens arboreta in the Spring 2017 seminar ‘Managing Today’s Arboreta’ ; and
WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory’s mission is “To inspire our public to value the presence of living things in our lives” and information from the Client Days seminar and program presenters will be of value for our visitors and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Bartlett is prepared to underwrite Como approximately $2,000 for flight, hotel, transportation, lodging, and food costs for two staff to attend the two day tour and seminar in Charlotte North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, participation in the Bartlett Commercial Client Days will be a valuable learning opportunity for staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts the donation of funding for two of the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Horticulture staff to attend the 2017 Bartlett Commercial Client Days, and thanks Bartlett Tree Experts for their generous gift.
