Supporting the service learning efforts by residents of RS EDEN traveling to Flint, Michigan.

Whereas, RS EDEN is a non-profit organization that has provided services in the areas of affordable housing, chemical dependency, family and correctional services, and sober supportive housing in Minnesota since 1971; and
Whereas, RS EDEN, without regard to race, religion or criminal background, continues to respond to the needs of individuals and families who experience challenges by building bridges to new beginnings in their lives; and
Whereas, a small group of young adults involved in RS EDEN supportive housing, have stepped up in response to the belief instilled in them to “pay it forward;” and
Whereas, in recognition of the horrific water crisis facing the residents of Flint, Michigan, these young adults have taken up the challenge to aid the population of Flint with their hands-on support; and
Whereas, through a partnership with a local organization in Flint, this group of young adults from RS EDEN will be traveling to Flint from August 7 through 13 to help distribute water to the people of Flint and assist in filtration projects to improve the conditions of their lead-poisoned water; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul supports RS Eden’s upcoming event at Seventh Landing and Fresh Grounds Coffeehouse, 1362 West Seventh Street, on July 16, from 1-4 pm, to raise funds to make their service trip possible, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul recognizes the courage and conviction of these RS Eden volunteers to serve the residents of the Flint, Michigan at a time of crisis, and welcomes this opportunity to extend its support and encouragement to the residents of Flint, Michigan along with the RS Eden delegation.
