Approving submission of an Invest Health proposal to the Reinvestment Fund and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

WHEREAS, Invest Health is a new multi-million dollar initiative of the Reinvestment Fund and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that seeks to fundamentally change the way cities improve opportunities for their citizens to lead healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, Invest Health is seeking teams of five cross-sector leaders from up to 50 mid-sized cities to participate in an 18-month effort designed to accelerate municipal capacity to address the multiple determinants of health in low-income communities; and
WHEREAS, grants of $60,000 would support the teams in attending four national convenings over the next eighteen months and any implementation activities the team identifies; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office submitted a Letter of Interest centered around the on-going work on the East Side of Saint Paul and proposing the team of Dayton’s Bluff Community Council Executive Director Deanna Abbott-Foster, Latino Economic Development Center Vice President Mario Hernandez, Hmong American Farmers Association Executive Director Pakou Hang, City of Saint Paul Innovation Specialist Catherine Penkert and HealthEast System Director for Neighborhood Integration Diane Tran; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has been invited to submit a full proposal by March 29, 2016; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul approves the submission of an Invest Health proposal and, if awarded, authorizes the Mayor to accept and administer the grant on the City’s behalf.
