Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for funding to provide environmental education programs for youth in regional parks and boulevard tree care education for residents and, if successful, enter into an agreement providing indemnification for Capitol Region Watershed District.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Capitol Region Watershed District has a Partner Grants program; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is eligible to receive up to $20,000 in grant funds for eligible clean water projects including education programs and materials, organizing projects, workshops, events, or clean water landscaping projects; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the intention of Parks and Recreation to submit a proposal for $20,000 to engage youth from low-income families in water quality education in regional parks and tree care education for residents in Frogtown, Summit Hill, and Dayton’s Bluff neighborhoods; and

 

WHEREAS, if funded, the grant agreement will require that the grantee indemnify Capitol Region Watershed District, its agents and employees from any claims or causes of action arising from performance of the grant agreement, and;

                     

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that accepting the grant funds will fulfill a public purpose; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the expenditure of public funds, which includes the promise of indemnification, for such a purpose will facilitate and enable it to take place, now, therefore, be it;

 

                     RESOLVED, that designated Parks and Recreation staff members are hereby authorized to seek funding on behalf of the City and, if successful, enter into an agreement with Capitol Region Watershed District to accept the funds on behalf of the City.
