Authorizing the Police Deparment to accept a grant in the amount of $600,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the Body Worn Camera grant.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the 2015 Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program from the U.S. Department of Justice; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funding which will support the implementation of the body-worn camera program in the Police Department which includes development, implement and evaluation of the body-worn camera program as one tool in the department’s comprehensive problem solving approach to enhance officer interactions with the public and build community trust; and
WHEREAS, the funding is for $600,000 with a term from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2017 which has an in-kind participation of $749,742; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council accepts this grant, and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Chief Thomas E. Smith to implement the attached agreement with the U.S Department of Justice.
