Accepting a travel scholarship from the Capitol Region Watershed District for Wes Saunders-Pearce to attend StormCon in Austin, Texas, during August 2 - 5, 2015.

WHEREAS, the 2015 North American Surface Water Quality Conference and Expo (StormCon) is being held in Austin, TX August 2 - 5; and
WHEREAS, a CHS Field (Lowertown Ballpark) partnership between the City of Saint Paul, Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD), and Metropolitan Council resulted in rate control and water quality improvements that exceed requirements and provide the first municipal rainwater re-use system for indoor use in the state; and
WHEREAS, rainwater will be collected from the roof of the adjacent light rail maintenance facility, piped to the ballpark, filtered, treated, and used for irrigation and flushing toilets; and
WHEREAS, CHS Field will include educational information about the project for the expected 400,000 annual ballpark visitors; and
WHEREAS, the CHS Field rainwater harvesting case study was selected by the StormCon planning committee as a project of national interest and have asked CRWD along with Wes Saunders-Pearce, Saint Paul's Water Resource Coordinator, to present this project at the conference; and
WHEREAS, CRWD has offered to provide a $1,500 scholarship for Wes Saunders-Pearce's travel, hotel, and registration expenses to allow him to participate in the presentation and attend the conference; and
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council accepts the scholarship to cover the costs of travel, hotel, and registration costs, appropriates it to use by Wes Saunders-Pearce, and thanks the Capitol Region Watershed District for its generous gift.
