Accepting radiological equipment valued at $135,132 received by the Fire Department as part of the Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS).

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Fire Department is part of the Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS), and
WHEREAS, the MMRS is an operational system that enables the metropolitan area to manage terrorist and other publice health emergencies that create mass casualties or casualties that require unique care capabilities, and
 
WHEREAS, the MMRS funding is derived from multiple sources including the Department of Homeland Security, the State of Minnesota Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and Hennepin County Medical Center, and
WHEREAS, as part of the MMRS, the Saint Paul Fire Department received 10 radiological monitors, 28 survey meters, and 28 pancake monitors valued at $135,132.00 from Hennepin County Medical Center, and
WHEREAS, the public purpose of receiving this equipment is to allow the Saint Paul Fire Department to have the necessary equipment needed to respond to a radiological accident/emergency/terroristic attack to address the radiation and its effects on the community, buildings, and citizens in the affected area, and
NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council on behalf of the residents of Saint Paul accept the radiological equipment from the MMRS.
