Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into an agreement with the State Games Board to host the 2013 Star of the North Summer Games.
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission has been charged to provide an opportunity for Minnesotans of all ages, creeds, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds to become actively involved in an Olympic-style competition and has entered into agreement with the State Games Board to be the official managing organization for the Star of the North State Games; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to host the Star of the North Summer Games for 2013; and
WHEREAS, the State Games Board agrees that the City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation shall conduct the 2013 Star of the North Summer Games subject to the terms and conditions in the attached agreement; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation will be required take official action to assume the risk of staging the Games by making the 2013 Games and official event; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the staging of the Starof the North Summer Games for 2012 will provide unique recreational activities and will showcase Saint Paul while bringing participants and spectators to the city and that the expenditure of money necessary to provide indemnification or insurance will make the event possible; now, therefore, be it
RESOVLED, the appropriate city officials are authorized to enter into the attached agreement with the State Games Board to host the 2013 Star of the North Summer Games.
