Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into an agreement with Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. to produce an annual festival on Harriet Island.
Body
WHEREAS, summer musical festivals on Harriet Island have a long history of bringing people to the area, providing entertainment for citizens, and showcasing the downtown riverfront; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to enter into a long-term agreement with Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. to produce an annual festival on Harriet Island; and
WHEREAS, the agreement will guarantee that Live Nation will have the right to produce a festival each year for three years, and if these are successful, to renew the agreement for an additional two years; and
WHEREAS, as part of the consideration for guaranteeing a multi-year access, Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. will pay the City $50,000 each year toward Fourth of July fireworks display, in addition to paying the regular costs for permits and related fees; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that the staging of festivals on Harriet Island by Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. will fulfill a public purpose in providing entertainment to the public, publicizing the city's park system, and providing revenue for fireworks; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the appropriate City officials are authorized to enter into the attached agreement with Live Nation Worldwide, Inc. for the multi-year use of Harriet Island.
