Amending the 2022 special fund budget and adding an activity for a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), distributed through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, via the FY 2021 Hiring Program, in the amount of $150,000.

WHEREAS, The City of Saint Paul, Police Department was awarded a grant of $3,750,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), distributed through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant, which has a grant term through September 30, 2026, was accepted by the City in March 2022, via RES 22-82; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to devote to new officer positions and expand community engagement activities of the SPPD; and

 

WHEREAS, the City transferred $2,000,000 of American Rescue Plan funds to cover the required match for this grant, via RES 22-1020; and

 

WHEREAS, the first officers hired using these funds are being hired in 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2022 financing and spending plan needs to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $150,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2022 budget and recommends the following changes; and

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the council approves these changes to the 2022 budget.
