Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to donate tackle football helmets and shoulder pads to the Westside Boosters to support youth tackle football programs.

Body

WHEREAS, Chapter 2.02 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code authorizes the Division of Contract and Analysis Services to dispose of surplus property and sets forth the procedures governing the sale or donation of such property; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has received a request from the Westside Boosters, a nonprofit organization, to donate football helmets and shoulder pads to the organization to help carry out its mission of providing opportunities for young people to play tackle football; and

WHEREAS, 46 football helmets and 82 shoulder pads have been identified and may be transferred to said organization for no consideration; and

WHEREAS, the helmets and shoulder pads have an estimated value of $3,500; and

WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the helmets and shoulder pads are no longer needed to carry out department functions; and

WHEREAS, the City Council's transfer of helmets and shoulder pads would provide the Westside Boosters with means to support their tackle football program; and

WHEREAS, the donation of such property would serve a public purpose and benefit the community as a whole by strengthening the Westside Boosters ability to provide tackle football opportunities to young people; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the donation of the above property to the Westside Boosters to support their mission; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that said organization shall take responsibility for removing the obsolete property from City premises in a manner and in accordance with the timeline mutually agreed upon with the Department of Parks and Recreation, and shall bear all costs associated with the removal and transportation of the designated obsolete property, and agrees to accept the ...
