Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to partner with Lower Phalen Creek Project to apply for funds of up to $50,000 from the 2022 Neighborhood STAR program for improvements at Pig’s Eye Park. (To be withdrawn)
Body
WHEREAS, the Lower Phalen Creek Project is a 501c3 founded in 1997 as a partnership between Saint Paul’s East Side and natural spaces in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation owns the property called Pig’s Eye Park; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Planning and Economic Development administers the Neighborhood Star grants; and
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood STAR Board is made up of 21 members appointed by the Mayor to tour, review, interview, and recommend application STAR applications to the Mayor and City Council for approval; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to construct site amenities including, but not limited to, location signs, directional signs, bike parking, and trash receptacles; and
WHEREAS, the responsibility of the Lower Phalen Creek Project will be to submit the Neighborhood STAR grant; and
WHEREAS, the responsibility of the Department of Parks and Recreation will be to provide a letter of support; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation will maintain the improvements for a minimum of seven years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Lower Phalen Creek Project, to apply for funds up to $50,000 from the 2022 Neighborhood STAR program for improvements at Pig’s Eye Park; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that upon approval of its application by the Neighborhood Star Board, the City may proceed with an agreement and resolution for the above reference project.
