Approving the renaming of Ecolab Plaza to Osborn Plaza.
Body
WHEREAS, Ecolab Plaza is located at the corner of Wabasha Street and 5th Street; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council approved Council File #98-514 on June 17, 1998, renaming said park to its current name which was previously known as both Osborn Plaza and Capital Centre Plaza; and
WHEREAS, Merritt J. Osborn founded Economics Laboratory, later renamed Ecolab, in 1923; and
WHEREAS, Ecolab has moved their offices from 370 Wabasha Street North and said building has been renovated and renamed to Osborn370; and
WHEREAS, Ecolab has requested to rename Ecolab Plaza to restore the name Osborn Plaza; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission Policy #7, Naming Parks and Recreation Sites, 2012 Update, provides criteria for naming of parks, and this request complies with the Historic Names criteria of the policy; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission considered this renaming at their February 10, 2022 meeting and voted to support the proposal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby renames Ecolab Plaza to Osborn Plaza.
