Recognizing the volunteers of the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail for their dedication and stewardship

Body
WHEREAS the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail are a group of volunteers in the Upper Landing neighborhood who cooperate with the City of St. Paul, Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa, Ramsey County, the National Park Service and Mississippi River Connections, and the St. Paul Parks Conservancy; and

WHEREAS the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, consist of 35 hardworking volunteers who have donated over 750 hours of group and individual work in 2020 and 50 donors who contributed over $8,000 for flower baskets and upkeep of the gardens; and

WHEREAS each year the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail raise funds to install 72 hanging baskets that create a walking corridor of blooming flowers around the High Bridge to the Wabasha Bridge; and

WHEREAS the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail volunteer to plant and maintain primarily native grasses and flowers and shrubs within the park and neighborhood; and

WHEREAS ongoing cleanup efforts by Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail keep the park and trail clean and safe; and

WHEREAS funds raised solely from the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail were used in a five-year effort to refurbish the gardens that were destroyed by spring floods; and

WHEREAS during the Covid-19 pandemic the number of park users quadrupled, and Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail increased their volunteer efforts to continue maintenance; and

WHEREAS the Friends of Upper Landing Park and Trail have received awards for their work, including the Great Places Award for the Chestnut Plaza, the Blooming Saint Paul Golden Steward Award, the National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat site, the Good Neighbor Award from ABC/KSTP, the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area Monarch Observation site, and the Adopt a River Program; now, theref...
