Title

Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for the Preparing for Emerald Ash Borer Grant (2021-2023) of up to $100,000 from the Department of Natural Resources to replace trees lost to the Emerald Ash Borer, and if funds are granted, authorizing the proper City of Saint Paul officials to execute the grant agreement which includes indemnification language.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for and accept up to $100,000 in grant funds from the Department of Natural Resources to support the replacement of trees lost to Emerald Ash Borer; and

 

WHEREAS, if awarded, the Department of Parks and Recreation would need to enter into a grant agreement with the State that will require that the grantee indemnify the State, its agents and employees from any claims or causes of action arising from performance of the grant agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, existing forestry general fund budgets will be used to satisfy the local match requirement of up to 1/3 the award amount; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council of Saint Paul finds that the expenditure of these funds to replace trees that have been lost to Emerald Ash Borer has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for $100,000 from the Department of Natural Resources to support the replacement of trees lost to Emerald Ash Borer, and if awarded authorizes the appropriate City officials to enter into the grant agreement with the State which includes indemnification language.
