Accepting gifts of air transportation and hotel costs from the Wallace Foundation for the Mayor to attend a conference in Washington, D.C., titled "Reimagining the School Day: A Forum on More Time for Learning," May 16-17, 2011.

WHEREAS, the Wallace Foundation is a nationally renowned educational institution invested in the policies and advocacy relating to education at all levels across all sectors of government; and
WHEREAS, the Wallace Foundation is hosting a conference in Washington, District of Columbia, on May 16-17, 2011, and
WHEREAS, the Wallace Foundation has extended an exclusive invitation to the Mayor, who will be among 75 invited education or policy leaders across the nation to attend the conference on prioritizing education and moving forward with shared best practices; and
WHEREAS, the Wallace Foundation has offered to cover travel expenses of the Mayor to include air travel and hotel stay; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor's attendance at this conference will serve a public purpose in allowing him to meet with other education policy leaders in the nation to discuss policies and procedures around enhancing education; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts the gift of conference lodging and air travel and appropriates it to the intended use for the Mayor to attend the conference, and thanks the Wallace Foundation for its generous gift.
