Authorizing the Office of Technology and Communications to accept the gift of $10,000 in free training from Microsoft for the purpose of keeping the City's technology current and ensuring that its systems remain supported.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul currently uses Microsoft Windows XP on its computers; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft will no longer be supporting the Windows XP system and is recommending that the City migrate its systems to Windows 7; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft has offered the City technical training at no cost to show that the Windows 7 system can operate in the City's environment; and
WHEREAS, the value of the training is approximately $10,000; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of the training does not bind the City to any purchase; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Information and Technology believes that the training is necessary to keep the city's technology current and to insure that its systems remain supported; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the gift of technical training on the Windows 7 system, thanks Microsoft for its generous gift, and authorizes entry into the attached letter agreement by the Office of Technology.
