Celebrating and remembering the life of Nom Vu Thao.

WHEREAS, Nom Vu Thao, age 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 7, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Vu was born February 5, 1994, in Laos, to Tooj Ntsawg Thoj and Zuag Vaj; and
WHEREAS, Vu attended primary school in Muang Khoun, Xieng Khouang Laos; and
WHEREAS, Vu also attended 916 Vo-Tec with certificates in English and Mathematics; and
WHEREAS, Vu was recruited to join the Lao National Army in 1959 and became an army officer in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Vu rose to the rank of Captain with the Lao Royal Army where he received honors for Bravery and Leadership and was pinned by the King of Laos in 1967 and 1969; and
WHEREAS, Vu immigrated with his family to Sparta, Wisconsin in 1977; and
WHEREAS, Vu moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1979; and
WHEREAS, Vu worked for Catholic Charities in the Twin Cities from 1982 to 1993, and he was instrumental in resettling more than 400 Hmong families in the Twin Cities; and
WHEREAS, Vu enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Vu is survived by his wife, Sia Ly, and his seven children and 11 grandchildren; and now therefore be it
RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council extends its condolences and support to Nom Vu Thao's family; and be it further
RESOLVED, the City of Saint Paul celebrates and remembers the life of Nom Vu Thao.
