Approving the gift of travel, lodging, and meal expenses for Mayor's Education Director Jane Eastwood and Mayor Chris Coleman to attend The Gates Foundation Mayors in Education Convening, paid for by the organizers, the Gates Foundation.

WHEREAS, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is hosting a conference in Washington, D.C. on March 13 and 14, 2014, for Mayors addressing educational changes; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Coleman and Jane Eastwood, the Mayor's Education Director, will attend the conference; and
WHEREAS, the Gates Foundation has offered to pay the costs of one night of hotel costs for the Mayor, as well as travel and meal costs for Jane Eastwood; and
WHEREAS, attendance at the conference will allow the Mayor and his Education Director to meet with Mayors and Mayoral staff from cities across the United States to discuss education policies and assist with the City's support for quality public education in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that attendance at the conference will be beneficial to the Mayor and his Education Director in developing and implementing education policy for the City, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the gift of travel, transportation and meals for attendance by Mayor Coleman and Jane Eastwood and thanks the Gates Foundation for its generous gift.
